Point Leaders Geary And Smithwick Head Super Sedan Series Nominations
Jak posted Tuesday March 9, 2010.
Paul Geary and Justin Smithwick, the respective point leaders of the Freightliner Trucks Championship and Sport Engines Development Series, head a nominations list of twenty-six drivers for Saturday night's Super Sedan events at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway (BIS).
Making their first appearance at BIS since late November, the Super Sedans are in the midst of their season-long Series for both Division 1 (Championship) and Division 2 (Development) drivers with both Geary and Smithwick holding decisive leads over their nearest rivals in the race for Series honours.
Although Geary is yet to win a Freightliner Trucks Series Feature this season, his consistency has kept him in the points chase since the opening Round and he currently enjoys a sixty point lead over Steve Pearce as the Series heads into the eighth of the fourteen scheduled Rounds. Series wins have been shared by former Australian Champion Darren Kane, Steve Pearce (2), Matty Pascoe (2), Craig Torr and Matt Williams, and except for Pascoe all these drivers have nominated for this weekend's event at Archerfield.
Smithwick though has two Development Series Feature wins to his credit this season and leads Jason Campbell by twenty-one points. The Development Series races just nine times this season and has only three dates remaining, including Saturday night's event at BIS.
Kane returns to Brisbane after the unsuccessful defence of his Australian Title in Adelaide last weekend, which was ultimately won by Gold Coast based Jamie McHugh who secured his second National crown in four years. Although Kane may no longer carry the number one on the door, as a multiple National and State Champion he remains one of the most accomplished Super Sedan competitors in the country and he will be eager to get back onto the top step of the podium on Saturday night.
Tania Smith, a Series Round winner at BIS two seasons ago, will make the familiar drive from northern NSW to Brisbane with the goal of adding another Series win to her résumé, a résumé that now includes the prestigious Grenville Anderson Memorial event which she won last month.
Saturday night's program includes AMCA Nationals and Limited Sprints plus Track Championship races for Sigmas, Outlaw Sedans and Open Sedans.
