Draw And Invert System In Place For Q S S S 8
Jak posted Friday March 5, 2010.
Under the Series regulations in place for the 2009/10 season, tomorrow night's eighth Round of the Qld Speedway Spares Series at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway will use a draw and invert system for determining the qualifying Heat race grids with drivers seeded by Club averages prior to the draw.
The format has been used extensively in the past by Sprintcars Qld and other racing Associations, and has been included in the Series regulations to provide an additional format for drivers to race under while adding additional interest for the fans. The format was last used in Round 3 of the Series this season - with Kerry Madsen winning the Feature in a guest drive for the ABC Auto Gear Racing team - and is slated to be used again in Round 9 in two weeks time at BIS.
Cameron Gessner tops the list with a 49.25 average over Richard Morgan on 47.11 and Andrew Scheuerle with 46.86. Series leader Pete Thorley has an average of 43.00 while Peter Lack who sits third in Series points after seven Rounds has an average of 39.50.
A week of rain in and around Brisbane has been clearing in recent days and BIS Promoter John Kelly is looking forward to another fast racetrack tomorrow night. David Muir, who won his maiden Sprintcar Feature race in Round 7 of the Series on February 20, holds the honour of the quickest lap of BIS this season with a mark of 11.578s and is on target to collect the $1500.00 contingency award money on offer from Darra Mechanical if no other driver can better his time during the Series. Darrell Hodges currently holds the one lap track record at 11.210s set in April 2009.
Saturday night's program includes a small but strong field of Late Models, with drivers qualifying for the fifteen lap Feature through two timed hot lap sessions and three Heat races. Former AMCA Nationals driver Russell Bonsey has nominated for the eXtreme Motorsport Thunder Series event as have Blair Grainger, Kevin Stow, Aaron Van Zeeland and Geoff Phillips.
Also on the program are Club Sedans, Stock Cars, Ford v Holden Sedans, Brisbane Sedans and Micro Sprints. Pit gates open from 3:00pm, main gates from 4:00pm, early racing from 4:30pm with the main program scheduled to start at 6:00pm.
